Media

Jakarta is Indonesian Central Economic,  became the location of the headquarters of almost all the national media, both newspapers, magazines, news sites, radio, or television.

Newspapers

Several newspapers published in Jakarta include: Compass, Harian Pelita, Indo Pos, Koran Jakarta, The Jakarta Post, Bisnis Indonesia, Investor Daily, Seputar Indonesia, Republika, Media Indonesia, Koran Tempo, Pos Kota, Warta Kota , Rakyat Merdeka.

Television

TVRI is government-owned television station based in Jakarta. Besides TVRI several other private television stations also based in Jakarta: RCTI, SCTV, TPI, ANTV, Indosiar, Metro TV, Trans TV, Trans 7, TVOne, Global TV.

Local television stations only broadcast in the Greater Jakarta area including: Jak-TV, Channel O, Spacetoon, Elshinta TV, Da Ai TV.

Economic

Jayakarta

Jayakarta (1527-1619)

The Portuguese are the first Europeans who came to Jakarta. History of Jakarta

Sunda Kelapa (397-1527)

Jakarta was first known as one of the named port of Sunda Kingdom of Sunda Kelapa, located in River estuary. Capital of the Kingdom of Sunda, known as Dayeuh Pakuan Pajajaran or Pajajaran (now Bogor) can be taken from the Sunda Kalapa port for two days of travel. Special Capital Region


Special Capital Region of Jakarta (DKI Jakarta, Jakarta Raya) is the capital city of Indonesia. Jakarta is the only city in Indonesia which has the status of provincial level. Jakarta is located in the northwest part of Java Island. Formerly known by the name of Sunda Kelapa (before 1527), Jayakarta (1527-1619), Batavia, Batavia, or Jacatra (1619-1942), and Djakarta (1942-1972).

Jakarta has an area of approximately 661.52 km ² (ocean: 6977.5 km ²), with a total population of 7,552,444 inhabitants (2007). Jakarta metropolitan area (Greater) with a population of approximately 23 million inhabitants, is the largest metropolitan area in Indonesia or a sixth of the world. Now that the greater Jakarta area have been integrated with the Greater Bandung area, where population-Bandung Raya megapolitan Greater number around 30 million inhabitants, which puts this region in the world's second sequence, after megapolitan Tokyo.
